Experience the splendor of creation…on foot. Amidst the stunning backdrop of the mature forestry, the wilderness scenery comes to life! No matter what your room choice, upon your arrival we will provide you with a detailed map of the Ranch that shows the various private, well-maintained hiking trails through various beautiful valleys and canyons on our Ranch.

Unique to the Wrightwood Guest Ranch are private viewing decks along each trail for you to soak in the unsurpassed views and meditate on the solitude of nature while forgetting about the bustling world below. These decks come complete with hammocks, benches and refreshments for your enjoyment!

In Buford Canyon, named after the Ranch founder, you will be able to see and listen to the sounds of some of the various species of birds that inhabit the Ranch, especially the owls which have been studied by the Department of Forestry for years. As the springtime snow melts, an ambitious hike will take you to Government Canyon and its breathtaking two waterfalls (50’ and 25’ high). The last part of this hike is for the more experienced hiker only.

As a Ranch Guest you can hike, or we can take you via Ranch transportation, to Lightning Ridge or Big Wide and experience what awaits the photographer or the artist wishing to apply their craft in a very quiet picturesque setting. Setup your easel or tripod amongst the multitude of forest trees, mountain wild flowers all with spectacular views of the snow capped mountain ranges beyond.

In addition, right outside the Ranch’s backdoor we have trails that will take you directly to the Pacific Crest Trail where you could literally walk to Mexico or Canada.
